MAKE MY OWN WEBSITE

Every day, thousands of people ask themselves: “Can I make my own website?”

I asked that same question a few years ago.  Truth is, I had absolutely no idea how to start a website, much less how to build a website.

I knew no code. No html; no java. And, I didn’t want to learn this stuff.

Turns out, it was easier---and far cheaper---than I had imagined.

The moral of this little tale:  you can build your own website, too.

My website building adventures began with Sitebuildit and it has produced such great results for me that I devote an entire section to it in this website. But, like anything else in the world, there’s no such thing as “one size fits all.”

Before you build your own website, look for the program that will do it best.  The proper fit for you will likely depend upon what you want to do.

Build Your Website Around Your Needs

I have several websites, each addressing a different need, and I’ve learned that to make my own website meet a particular need, it’s important to use the right product or platform.

So, before anything else, ask yourself what you want to do:·

  • Advertise your existing business
  • Sell online with an ecommerce website
  • Provide information
  • Online affiliate marketing
  • Blog
  • Build a website for Adsense or other advertising
  • Build one website or lots of websites

Once you’ve decided what you want your site to do, you’ll be in a position to investigate the best programs and platforms to build a website that’ll meet your needs, skills, time constraints, and pocketbook.

If you take a moment to look over the Navigation Bar above this page, you’ll see four important sections: Sitebuildit, Ecommerce Sites, Affiliate Marketing, and Blog Guide.  I recommend that you take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with these website-building options.

SEO Website Optimization

Building a website---a successful website, one that brings in lots of traffic---is rarely the case for “webmasters” (I use the word advisedly) having the philosophy:  “Build it and they will come.”  Indeed, most websites get very little traffic because. . . their “webmasters” neither understand how the search engines work nor take the time to build a website the right way; i.e., build every web page for both human readers AND search engines (SEO website optimization).

Their ignorance, laziness, or simply failure to follow basic SEO website optimization techniques presents wonderful opportunities for Google professionals, you, and me.  All we need to do is design every web page to incorporate those techniques and we’ll jump ahead of most of our competitors.

Whenever I make my own websites, I take the time to optimize every web page.  You should do so, too. It'll take a bit more time but it's clearly worth the effort.

Though the term “SEO website optimization” may sound a little daunting or technical, it really isn’t.  It’s nothing more than (very important but easily accomplished) techniques to might help you build web pages that jump past your competitors and maybe even get to the top of Google where the real traffic comes from.

SEO website optimization is important enough to warrant its own section and you’ll see it on the NavBar above (look for “SEO”).

Promoting Your Website

Elsewhere on this site I’ve commented that: “A website without traffic doesn’t exist.”  That’s an important point to bear in mind and I always think about it when I make my own website.

You should, too.

You can design your own website to be the most beautiful or most informative on the planet but, without promoting it, you’ll be in the outer nether reaches of the Internet.

Lost in space.

As bad as that is, what is worse is that hundreds, maybe thousands of competing websites, every one of which is inferior in quality to yours, will be ahead of you in the all important Search Results.

How unfair!  How unjust!

How unnecessary!

Build, but don’t promote, your website and you’ll lose out every time to people who build, then promote like crazy, their websites.

I mean, think about it.  What’s the most famous brand in the world?

It’s probably Coca Cola.  It’s been famous for over a century and is sold in every country, every city, and nearly every village on the planet.

And, yet, despite its dominance, you see its ads everywhere: every country, every city, nearly every village.  It’s on signs, in magazines, paper cups, and adorning coolers.  It advertises everywhere from Little League games to  World Cup Soccer championships and every sport in-between.

Fact is, when I decided to make my own website---the first website---I had no idea (1) it needed to be promoted or (2) how to go about marketing it.  But, I’ve learned.

Fortunately, promoting your website doesn’t need to cost much (often no) money.  You’ll need to learn how to build traffic and links using a variety of (mostly free) techniques like:

  • Article writing
  • Social bookmarking
  • Web directories
  • Blog posts and comments
  • RSS (never heard of it?  Don’t worry, it’s free and simple)

I can’t stress enough the importance of promoting your website.  Probably 99% of all “webmasters” don’t take the time or exert the effort to do so which is:  too bad for them and a Golden Opportunity for you and me.

I’ll teach you how to market your website for success (virtually for free) in the section entitled “Traffic” on the Nav Bar and, as a bonus, show you how to make money on your site (“Monetize”) and even use Google Adwords (“Adwords”).

Welcome to E Make My Own Website.

To your success!
