GOOGLE PAY PER CLICK: ADWORDS GUIDE
There are thousands of online advertising companies but only the Google pay per click program called Adwords opens the world to its advertisers.
This is not an exaggeration.
Everybody knows that Google is the most widely used search engine on the planet with over a hundred million searches every day.
No other search engine comes close.
Not Yahoo.
Not Microsoft.
None of the other 300 or so search engines put together.
But, few people realize the enormous reach of Google advertising programs.
Consider:
- 70% of the planet’s organic searches are on Google---and get Adwords displays
- Google Adwords ads also appear on YouTube, Gmail, Google Maps, and other Google properties
- The Google Display Network (1 million partner websites, video, gaming, and mobile displays) reaches 80% of global internet searchers
Whether you’re in Afghanistan or Zimbabwe—or 250 countries in between, Google advertising programs are available.
You can advertise in Arabic, Chinese, Russian, to Vietnamese and dozens of languages. Sorry to say, though, that Adwords isn’t yet available in Klingon but you can use Google’s handy Klingon translator to tell your readers where to find your product, like chocolate (raed'aeusnnta'jhi).
Of course, most people don’t need to advertise across the planet. After all, if you’re a plumber in Birmingham, Alabama, advertising in Anchorage, Alaska, or New York City is pretty dumb. Fortunately, if you want to advertise on Google, you can target your audience and pay only for ads that are likely to convert to business for you.
How to Advertise With Google

Because of Adwords’ dominance and importance to internet marketers, we’ll address things you’ll need to know to profitably (remember that word) advertise with Google and, if you like, even give you a useful free e-book:Google Adwords Made Easy, too.
But, first things first: what is the Google pay per click advertising program and how does it work?
Google Adwords is Google’s flagship advertising program. First introduced only a few years ago, it revolutionized marketing.
For more than a century, advertising involved costly, inefficient, untargeted mass marketing, mostly beyond the financial means of small businesses. Then along came Adwords.
Initially launched in October 2000 with just 350 advertisers, Google soon realized that the real money to be made wasn’t from the traditional big American corporate advertisers but from millions and millions of small businesses around the globe. But, to reach them, it had to figure out a way that would make business sense to them and that they could afford.
Turns out, the solution was at hand and, with the power of Google’s search engine, surprisingly simple: offer advertisers the ability to instantaneously offer relevant ads for any search query and pay only for those visitors who actually visit the advertiser.
In early 2002, that “Eureka” moment gave birth to today’s Adwords advertising program.
Essentially, it works like this:
1. Google displays ads that link directly to your website.
2. You choose the keywords or phrases you want associated with your advertisement and set the price you are willing to pay every time somebody clicks the link to your site (hence, the term “Google pay per click”).
3. The top advertising position isn’t automatically given to the advertiser willing to pay the most. Instead, it’s determined by a combination of factors, including click-thru-rate, Quality Score, relevance, and price.
Additionally, it offers something called “Adwords Discounter” which automatically reduces the cost per click to one cent above your nearest competitor’s cost per click.
Adwords sounds pretty simple, doesn't it? Unfortunately, there is a lot to know and do so the overwhelming majority of Google pay per click marketers either don’t profit or don’t maximize their profits.
